General Summary

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing packaging solutions to meet customers diverse needs, designing Crates, Cartons, and Foam Packaging. Responsible for costing, documenting designs, working with manufacturing regarding specifications and assembly question.

Assignments will be provided by regional manager based on multiple factors and workload, able to work in a challenging environment, have good multitasking skills, be creative ability to produce unique ideas and solutions.

Location

  • Must office out of Milwaukee, WI.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and estimate cost effective transportation-based packaging solutions based on customer supplied information.

  • Produce and/or work with manufacturing to make samples upon request.

  • Produce detailed, accurate, consistent prints for manufacturing to create products, utilizing SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD and other packaging design/logistic programs, some training provided.

  • Able to fluently communicate directly via email, phone, on-site visits, meetings and virtual collaborations with customers, sales, purchasing, operations, and engineers.

  • Problem-solve customer inquiries and internal issues as they arise.

  • Willing to adapt in an ever-changing environment with the goal of providing the best products and service to our customers.

  • Investigate or seek out new non-stock materials as needed to meet customer requirements, as well as constantly improve products manufactured.

  • Develops a comprehensive knowledge of Company products and procedures through on-the-job training activities.

  • Have sound understanding of simple mathematical equations to calculate and maximize yield of materials such as, but not limited to: Lumber, Plywood, Foam, Corrugated.

  • Develop a relationship with production teams to learn machinery and equipment capabilities as well as time required to perform manufacturing.

  • Develop working knowledge on continuous improvement and efficiency standards.

  • Develop an understanding on source contacts and the Purchasing department.

  • Prepare various reports as required.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Packaging Engineer degree or related discipline, or equivalent experience is required.

  • Proficiency in the use of MS-365 programs and working knowledge of SolidWorks is required.

  • 1-5 minimum years of related industry experience is required.

  • Experience designing and understanding lumber/plywood-based pallet and box/crate designs.

  • Experience designing protective packaging with various foam types and applications.

  • Experience designing and understanding corrugated box construction.

  • Experience in hardware selection, fasteners, metal fabrication.

  • Experience in a warehouse, manufacturing plant, or military logistics a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels, customers, and the public.

  • Ability to apply business math to manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to recognize value in various products and be able to utilize them in the manufacturing of new products.

  • Ability to physically make product samples based on design.

  • Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships.

  • Requires superior analytical, problem solving and designing skills/aptitude.

  • Ability to manage several projects at once, to organize and prioritize work, to meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking (ability to speak Spanish or second language would be a plus but not required)

  • Ability to pass a drug test.
