After Betsy, Jeff and their three children (Owen, Ellie, and Alex) moved to their new home in Waunakee, Wisconsin, Betsy began her search for a modern, happy, and convenient dog daycare and boarding facility for their two dogs, Butter and Puddy. They asked neighbors, local vets, and friends in the area for recommendations, but none completely met the needs or standards of Betsy and Jeff’s philosophy on caring for and nurturing dog family members when parents are away.

“Many of the facilities didn’t meet our expectations for cleanliness and many didn’t practice modern dog-care concepts,” says Betsy. “I need to know that while Jeff and I work, vacation, or travel for business that Butter and Puddy are lovingly cared for and are happy.” “We wanted a dog-care facility that was like a home-away-from-home for them…a place that they were happy to go to. And knowing that they’re happy and well-cared-for, helps lift our guilt when we know we can’t take them with us,” says Jeff.

When their search for a dog daycare and boarding facility that met their high expectations came up empty, Betsy and Jeff knew that this was the business they had to open. As life-long dog lovers, it was an easy decision to combine their professional business experience with their dog-care philosophy and open Wisconsin’s first Dogtopia, Dogtopia of Madison West.

Today, they are proud to provide the Greater Madison Area with a modern facility where dogs can play in a safe, healthy and supervised environment, giving their parents the freedom to go about their lives worry-free. Dog parents know that they’re leaving their dogs with our competent, well trained team and when they pick them up, they’re picking up happy, well-socialized (and tired!) dogs from Dogtopia of Madison West!
